Powerhouse Theater

The Hallie Flanagan Davis Powerhouse Theater is a black-box theater named after, Hallie Flanagan, the drama professor who launched the Experimental Theater at Vassar and profoundly shaped the way the dramatic arts are taught here. Ever hear of the Federal Theater Project? It was Roosevelt's plan to put actors back to work after the Great Depression. He picked Flanagan to lead it in 1935, which she did, boldly and imaginatively, until 1938 when Congress disbanded it for being too radical.
