Ely Hall
"40 dressing rooms, 25 needle-baths (a.k.a. showers), three water closets, three stationary washbowls, and a swimming bath (a.k.a. swimming pool)" were among the goodies the new Alumnae Gymnasium boasted in 1889. Today, half of the building houses the Earth Science and Geography Department. The other half includes a painting studio upstairs, with phenomenal light from the huge windows and sky-lights, and the Aula downstairs, a large room designed for social functions, with an open-rafter ceiling, huge arched windows, and a terra cotta fireplace.
