Kyle Chea ’10
Kyle Chea ’10 splits his time between his home in the Bahamas and exploring China and Hong Kong. This semester Kyle checks in from Bristol, England, where’s he’s studying and rowing on the legendary Thames.
“We kept on at a 30 stroke rating for the first two and a half kilometres, and managed to pass one of the boats from the Imperial College in London. We kept it up all the way down the course, and managed to hit a 31.5 stroke rating in our last 1000 metres. It was the best rowing I’d ever been a part of…. As always, I wore my red headband for good luck. Back at Vassar, before one of our big races, I think it was our Liberty League race, I put it on, and we rowed a great course.”
Brian Farkas ’10
As editor-in-chief of the student run Miscellany News, Brian Farkas ’10 is always pursuing the next big story.
“Tonight I attended a really amazing lecture by Robyn Muncy, a historian at the University of Maryland….Muncy is one of those historians who can just command an audience, more of a storyteller than a stodgy academic. She came to my American Century class today, so we had the chance to meet her before the evening’s lecture. Muncy talked about her research on the Progressive Era, and the unique role that Vassar College played in producing social reformers in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.”
Joe Bubar ’11
As a member of Vassar’s baseball team, Joe Bubar ’11 dishes out the inside scoop from the dugout to the diamond. For his job in the Sports Information Office, Joe keeps up with all things athletic.
“There’s nothing quite like the feeling of opening day. It’s a combination of excitement and nervousness that kept me up the night before our season-opening double-header against Swarthmore, tossing and turning in bed for four hours, before I could finally fall asleep. And I wasn’t the only one. When I got on the bus Saturday at 7am, I learned that the majority of players on the team couldn’t sleep either. Ah, the opening day jitters.”
Casey Gonzalez ’10
Casey Gonzalez ’10, Vassar’s own fashionista, keeps up with the latest trends as editorial director for the student-run style magazine Contrast. Follow Casey as she takes in the styles and sights in Barcelona — even though it was hard to leave Vassar.
“I don’t want to leave but I know that Vassar encourages students to study abroad for a reason. Luckily, one of my closest friends ended up in the same program with me in Barcelona so I’ll have a little Vassar safety net in Spain. I definitely feel like Vassar has prepared me to take risks and absorb the culture of a new city, and it’s good to know that everything I love about school will be waiting for me when I come back!”
