The Vassar Class of 2013

The Class of 2013’s six hundred and sixty freshmen arrived on campus at the end of August. They were selected from the largest applicant pool in Vassar College’s history. Members of the class interned with NASA and the U.S. House of Representatives Oversight Committee, and another won funding to research the Mississippi River. Sixteen Eagle Scouts/Girl Scout Golds, two filmmakers whose work has been screened at festivals, two licensed pilots, and several published authors and poets are in the class, as are a nationally recognized Korean drummer, two bagpipers, three musicians who have performed at Carnegie Hall, and a recorded Sri Lankan reggae artist.

Before the Class of 2013 arrived on campus, many of them had the opportunity to meet other students and alumnae/i at send-off events hosted by local Vassar Clubs and Alumnae/i Admissions Program volunteers. Thank you very much to those of you--in Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, and Washington--who made this happen!

FAQ of the Month

Question: What do I need to know about the application process as an admissions volunteer?

Answer:

  • Vassar uses only the Common Application, plus the required Vassar supplement.
  • In addition to the application itself, there are four required parts:
    • Transcript (the most important one)
    • Standardized testing (either [1] the SAT Reasoning Test along with 2 SAT Subject Tests OR [2] the ACT with the writing test)
    • 2 Letters of recommendation (from a guidance counselor and a teacher)
    • Essay
  • Your Space is an optional, open section of the Vassar supplement where a student can include any additional material they would like.
  • Application Deadlines
    • Early Decision I: Nov. 15
    • Early Decision II: Jan. 1
    • Regular Decision: Jan. 1
    • Fall Transfer: Mar. 15
    • Spring Transfer: Nov. 1
  • After students submit their Common Application to Vassar, they will receive an email with information on how to access an online checklist that will show which parts of their application have been received to date.
  • To request a conversation with an alumnae/i volunteer, applicants must submit their Common Application and application fee or fee waiver before completing the online form at http://admissions.vassar.edu/aluminterview.html. Please note the following deadlines:
    • Early Decision Round I interview request deadline: November 8.
    • Early Decision Round II interview request deadline: December 18.
    • Regular Decision interview request deadline: January 1.
